It seems that even the ordinary months have extraordinary events.
The stand-out news of September 2021 was the establishment of Mercy Ministry Companions as the newest MPJP in Australia.
On 02 September, AMPJP Chair, Eva Skira and I gave a presentation on governance as part of the Mission: One Heart Many Voices conference.
On 14 September 2021, AMPJP held its Annual General Meeting and a Council meeting. As a consequence of the AGM, I sent to a copy of the AMPJP Annual Report to the Leaders of Religious Institutes and to Archbishops/Bishops.
September ended with the inaugural meeting of the AMPJP Canonical Stewards Formation Committee. This first meeting was largely spent introducing ourselves and scoping the possibilities in addressing the Committee’s Terms of Reference. The Committee will next meet in December 2021. The Committee members are enthusiastic about the work ahead – both in the near-term and the long-term possibilities for significant progress on lay formation.
A Prayer for the World
Let the rain come and wash away the ancient grudges,
The bitter hatreds held and nurtured over generations.
Let the rain wash away the memory of the hurt, the neglect.
Let the sun come out and fill the sky with rainbows.
Let the warmth of the sun heal us wherever we are broken.
Let it burn away the fog so that we can see each other clearly.
So that we can see beyond labels, beyond accents, gender or skin colour.
Let the warmth and brightness of the sun melt our selfishness.
So that we can share the joys and feel the sorrows of our neighbours.
And let the light of the sun be so strong that we will see all people as our neighbours.
Let the earth, nourished by rain, bring forth flowers to surround us with beauty.
And let the mountains teach our hearts to reach upward to heaven.
