Advancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and Wellness Outcomes

October 3 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Free

Courage, Hope and Action : Advancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and Wellness Outcomes as Mission imperatives.

In 1986, Pope John Paul II in an address to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia, called for a new courage and a new hope. He said “what has been done cannot be undone. But what can now be done to remedy the deeds of yesterday must not be put off till tomorrow.”

As part of this call to action, Catholic Health Australia will focus the next instalment in our “Health at the Margins” series, on the crucial topic of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander healthcare. Importantly it will seek to focus on truth telling, and delving into spaces often ignored, overlooked, or assumed by contemporary conversations.

We know of consistent reporting and evidence that outlines the trajectory of closing the gap.

We know the complexities of delivering on and celebrating our mission as part of complex and challenging areas of lifelong health and wellness

We know that reconciliation is everybody’s business.

This webinar will celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander traditions and legacy, while exploring the lived experience and diverse opinions of health care professionals from community dedicated to making a difference. You will hear questions submitted from senior leaders across CHA about what they have always wanted to know more about. This important conversation will focus on answering queries that aren’t always commonly asked when exploring the systemic issues contributing to health disparities while highlighting successful initiatives that have begun to bridge the gap.

The panellists ask that as we join together in this space, we engage with infinite respects and open hearts, embracing provocations and vulnerabilities as we work together for reconciliation.
