The Members of St John of God Australia Limited have announced the appointment of the Hon Neville Owen as a Trustee of St John of God Health Care.
His appointment started on 1 January 2020.
Mr Owen was a judge of the WA Supreme Court for almost 20 years and at time of retirement was senior judge of the Court of Appeal, and has excellent credentials and considerable experience in corporate governance including hearing the trial of the Bell group of companies.
He was also the Royal Commissioner reviewing the collapse of the HIH Insurance group.
Mr Owen is held in high regard within the Catholic Church, having been appointed by Pope Francis to the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors in February 2018 to advise on matters affecting the safety of children.
He served a term as Chancellor of The University of Notre Dame Australia and remains a Trustee.
In 2014 he was appointed by the Australian Catholic Bishop’s Commission to Chair the Truth, Justice and Healing Council and subsequently appointed to the Implementation Advisory Group. He is currently the Chair of the Governance Review Project conducting a review of the governance and management of dioceses and parishes of the Church in Australia
As a Trustee of St John of God Health Care, Mr Owen will contribute to the Trustees roles including appointing the St John of God Health Care Board, and ensuring that the Ministry of the organisation remains faithful to its role within the Catholic Church and is delivered in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values.
