Br Paul Oakley (EREA President) recently met with Cardinal João Braz de Aviz, Prefect of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life (CICLSAL). Br Paul shared some of the many wonderful things happening across and between our schools and the Touchstones that are central to EREA living out the Gospel mission.
Br Paul presented the Cardinal with The Charter for Catholic Schools in the Edmund Rice tradition and shared the four Touchstones and how they animated our schools, staff and students. Cardinal Braz de Aviz commended these and was very taken and impressed by the phrase: EREA schools strive to offer a liberating education, based on a gospel spirituality, within an inclusive community committed to justice and solidarity.
Cardinal Braz de Aviz spoke about Pope Francis’ commitment to Communio and the importance of all groups in the Church nuturing and developing this. The Cardinal was presented with the EREA Message Stick (designed by Ms Vicki Clarke, EREA Board Member and Muthi Muthi Woman) and Br Paul explained to him how the centre line connects each of our schools across EREA and that now CICLSAL (and the Vatican) was also connected….a further expression of Communio.
