Anti-Poverty Week will be held from October 13 to 19, with October 17 marked as a Day of Action on solutions to end poverty. The key message is “Poverty exists. Poverty hurts us all. We can all do something about it.”
This year Anti-Poverty Week has invited the ‘Raise the Rate campaign‘, which aims at increasing the rate of Newstart and associated allowances by $75 a week, to be the focus for the Day of Action. Around one million Australians are reliant on these payments, which have not been increased in real terms for more than 25 years.
Stay tuned for more on what will be happening on October 17. For more information and resources about the week’s activities, go to https://antipovertyweek.org.au/
