Boundary Breaking – reactions to child sexual abuse crisis

December 10 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free
Hear our colleague Associate Professor Marcus Pound from Durham University Centre for Catholic Studies present a webinar: Boundary Breaking – the crisis of child sexual abuse in the Catholic community in England and Wales.
Associate Professor Marcus Pound will share his insights from a project that broke new ground, with findings suggesting that aspects of the culture and practices of the Catholic Church are implicated in how clerical child sexual abuse has happened. The research, based on 82 interviews and 4 focus groups, focused on listening to the voices of victims and survivors of abuse and their families. It also listened to people affected directly or indirectly by the abuse crisis including parish communities, lay men and lay women, priests, deacons, bishops, religious communities and safeguarding staff. We are looking forward to learning about how child sexual abuse in the Catholic Church has affected the practice of ordinary Catholics and of those entrusted with ministry or professional responsibilities. If this topic is particularly challenging, we suggest that you seek support from someone or from a service that you trust.

As this webinar will be live, it will be in different time zones:
– 8 pm (Australian AEDT)
