The Church as the Mystical Body of Christ

This course will explore the relationship between Jesus Christ as head of the Church and the faithful as his mystical or spiritual body. Focusing on the Scriptures and Tradition, it will show that God was preparing the establishment of the Church by Christ in his ministry and with the descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. It will then address Jesus as the master of both the universe and the Church, before showing how our participation in the sacraments—specifically Christ’s body and blood in the Eucharist—initiates us into Jesus’ death and resurrection leading to eternal life. And this has implications not just for us, but for the whole world, even the cosmos.
