The most recent CPSL e-newsletter contained the story below of their innovative move to online courses as a way of assisting Catholic Church Authorities meet their obligations to learn and plan their safeguarding responses.
Since the arrival of COVID-19, like everyone CPSL has had to adapt to operating in the virtual, online space.
Meetings, consultations, audits and safeguarding training are all now online. Part of this shift has been taking our NCSS Introductory Session for Leaders and Applying the NCSS training online. Thanks to all of those who have joined our sessions and completed our surveys, we are pleased to report that on the whole this seems to have been a successful pivot to online delivery.

Seventy people joined our Applying the National Catholic Safeguarding Standards sessions in May (including a tailored session for one entity).
We’re very pleased to report that these sessions were highly regarded and received an overall rating of 4.5 out of 5 from those who completed our training evaluation survey.
Survey respondents reported that they had a greater understanding of the NCSS and safeguarding principles as a result of attending the training (4.4 out of 5), felt equipped to implement the requirements of the Standards (4.2 out of 5), and gave the online delivery of the training a high rating (4.4 out of 5).
NCSS Introductory Session for Leaders – June 2020

We facilitated an NCSS Introductory Session for Leaders on June 3 and 4 and received some great feedback. Thirty-three leaders from religious institutes and dioceses across Australia, as well as our first attendee from New Zealand, joined the online session which was divided into three modules. Attendees reported that the training gave them an understanding of their responsibilities as a leader with respect to safeguarding (4.5 out of 5). Attendees also reported a strong understanding of the purpose and function of the NCSS as a result of attending this training (4.5 out 5). The online delivery of the training was ranked highly (4.4 out of 5) and attendees gave this session an all round score of out of 4.5 out of 5.
