Executive Officer’s report: February 2019

February started with an AMPJP Council meeting in Melbourne. It was great to have almost all Member Representatives present and to have as our guest Peter Pritchard from Sophia Education Ministries.

During the month there were two AMPJP discernment sessions to develop our submission to the Plenary Council 2020 – one in Sydney and one in Brisbane. Synthesising the sharing from these meetings and consulting with participants took a considerable amount of my time. I think the process and outcome of our four regional discernment session was very rich and will have lasting benefit for participants and the AMPJP.

On 14th Feb 2019, the AMPJP Council Chair and I participated in a CRA and ACBC meeting to review the Church’s various safeguarding and professional standards bodies. It was a great opportunity to reflect on the good work being achieved by many for the sake of  vulnerable people.

February’s sense of change and movement culminated in the Vatican’s Child Protection Summit closing a day or so before the shocking news that Cardinal Pell was found guilty of child sex abuse.
